Tire and flat repair where it went flat, Northwest Houston, Texas
A flat tire does not have to become a tow and a lost day. Empire Tire pulls the wheel, finds the puncture and repairs it from the inside with a combination patch and plug, which seals the tread and the inner liner in one piece. A repair only counts when the tire comes off the wheel and is inspected from both sides: a plug pushed in from the outside without dismounting is a temporary get-home fix, not a repair, and it can hide damage the tire already took while it was driven flat. If the puncture is in the sidewall or the shoulder, or the tire ran flat long enough to break down inside, we will tell you it cannot be repaired safely rather than sell you a patch that will not hold.
At a glance
- What it is: Punctures repaired from the inside
- Where it happens: In the shop, on the machine
- The method: Combination patch and plug
- When we say no: Sidewall, shoulder or run-flat damage
What is included
- The wheel comes off. A tire is inspected from both sides or it has not been inspected. Everything else is guessing.
- The leak is found, not assumed. Slow leaks that nobody can see get traced properly instead of topped up and sent away.
- Patched from the inside. A combination unit seals the hole through the tread and the inner liner together.
- Rebalanced after the repair. Taking a tire off the wheel changes its balance, so it goes back on the balancer before it goes back on the car.
- An honest verdict. Some tires cannot be repaired safely, and we say so instead of selling a patch that fails later.
- A replacement on the same visit. If it is not repairable we can fit a new tire there and then rather than send you somewhere else.
How it works
- Tell us where it is. The address or the spot on the road, and roughly what happened to it.
- We come to the tire. The unit rolls to the vehicle. It does not have to be driven anywhere on a flat.
- Off, inspected, repaired. Wheel off, tire dismounted, the puncture found and patched from the inside, then rebalanced.
- Back on and back to work. Torqued, inflated to the placard figure, and you carry on with your day.
Vehicles we do this for
- Cars and SUVs. Daily drivers, family vehicles
- Work pickups. Half ton through one ton
- Delivery vans. Sprinter, Transit and cargo
- Box trucks. Straight trucks and stake beds
- Trailers. Utility, equipment and enclosed
Questions about tire and flat repair
Why can a sidewall puncture not be repaired?
The sidewall flexes constantly and carries the structural load, so a patch there will not hold and the tire can fail without warning. Nobody reputable repairs a sidewall, and anyone offering to is telling you something about their standards.
Can you repair a flat instead of replacing it?
Often yes. A puncture in the tread area can usually be repaired properly, while damage to the sidewall or shoulder means the tire has to be replaced. Send us a photo and we will tell you which one you have.
Is a plug a proper repair?
A plug pushed in from the outside is a temporary measure, not a repair. A correct repair means the tire comes off the wheel so the damage can be inspected from the inside and sealed properly.
Can you repair a tire more than once?
It depends on where the repairs are and how close together. Multiple repairs in the same area, or too many across one tire, mean it is time to replace rather than patch again.
Can you rebalance a wheel after a repair?
Wheel balancing is part of our commercial and fleet service. For residential work, tell us what the vehicle is doing and we will be straight about what it needs and where.
Can you tell me if a repair is safe?
Yes, and we will tell you plainly when it is not. Position of the damage, tread remaining and the tire condition all decide it, and no repair is worth a failure at speed.
